Zurich-based Nexxiot, which provides integrated solutions for tracking and tracing cargo around the world using IoT and cloud technologies, has won Swisscom’s 2021 Climate Award.

According to Swisscom, the awards jury took a number of criterium into consideration before coming to the decision.

This includes intensity and quantity (quantitative criteria), as well as innovation and customer experience (qualitative criteria). Data reported on CO2 reductions for the year 2020 was also evaluated, while compact documentation and proof of the CO2 reductions were required too.

Stephen Neff, CEO of myclimate, was handed the responsibility of deciding who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the competition. Nexxiot came in first place, followed by Belimo, who combines intelligence and innovation with its heating manager “Energy Valve”. 3rd place was awarded to Energie Zukunft Schweiz for its LORALARM, which can be used to remotely monitor solar thermal systems in particular.

Explaining its decision, Swisscom said that Nexxiot, which provides an integrated solution to track, find and protect cargo from over 160 countries around the globe and across 450 network roaming partners, is optimising the logistics of cargo transport trains courtesy of its IoT solution:

With its IoT solution, Nexxiot is optimising the logistics of cargo transport trains. The greater transparency of the locations and routes of the individual wagons makes it possible to significantly increase the efficiency and utilisation of the trains and to transport more goods by rail with the same number of wagons in a climate-friendly manner.
