No separate department-wide HGV ban has been announced, but traffic is expected to be affected around Calvados, the N13 corridor, and several towns linked to the commemorations.
The main areas likely to be affected include Caen, Bayeux, Arromanches-les-Bains, Ouistreham and the Sword Beach area, Langrune-sur-Mer, and Bénouville near Pegasus Bridge. Traffic may also be affected outside Calvados around Sainte-Mère-Église and Carentan-les-Marais.
The heaviest congestion is expected on routes between Caen and Bayeux on the N13, Bayeux and Arromanches, Caen and Ouistreham, and along the coastal road between Courseulles-sur-Mer, Langrune-sur-Mer and Luc-sur-Mer. Delays are also likely around Colleville-sur-Mer, where the American cemetery is located.
In Caen, the Marathon de la Liberté will run from 4 to 7 June, with traffic and parking restrictions linked to races in the city. The 2026 programme includes races on 4, 6 and 7 June, with the marathon starting from Courseulles-sur-Mer and the semi-marathon starting from Pegasus Bridge in Bénouville, both finishing at Stade Hélitas in Caen.
Langrune-sur-Mer will host the international D-Day ceremony on Saturday, 6 June, from 16:30 to 18:00 at the monument of the 48th Royal Marine Commando on Place du 6 Juin. Vehicle traffic in the commune will be banned from midday until the evening, when police roadblocks are lifted.
The two streets bordering Place du 6 Juin will already be closed from 5 June, while parking restrictions are being introduced progressively from 1 June.
Operators should avoid planning weekly rest in the immediate area, as parking and accommodation are expected to be under pressure during the commemorative period.
