Norway’s roads authority seeks answers over lack of bids for new rest stop contracts

Norway's roads authority, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, says it is keen to speak to industry to find out why private companies are reluctant to get involved in rest stop construction tenders.

Last year, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration received absolutely no offers for its public tenders concerning the creation of 24/7 rest stops on the E6 Vestby-Oslo, E18 Oslo-Drammen and E134 Drammen-Kongsberg.

“Since the need for 24-hour resting places for heavy goods transport is acute both south and west of Oslo, we are now inviting the market for dialogue so as to hear from relevant players what is needed to make it interesting to offer when we announce new tenders,” says Siv Kilskar of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, as quoted by tungt.no.

The process of consultation will go as follows:

  • Written input and proposals are to be sent to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration by 23 June.
  • Those actors who want one-to-one meetings with the Norwegian Road Administration after the written submissions have been submitted, can register their interest by 18 August.
  • If the Norwegian Public Roads Administration deems it appropriate, a selection of stakeholders will be invited to new meetings.

It is hoped that landowners, property developers, catering companies, petrol stations, charging operators, transport companies and municipalities will be among those entities to express their views on the rest stop tenders.
