From November 22 to December 16, temporary controls will be introduced at the internal borders of the Schengen area. Drivers can expect border checks when crossing the border with Germany, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, and Slovakia. In this way, the Polish Ministry of the Interior and Administration wants to increase the safety of the participants of the UN climate summit organized in Poland, which begins in early December.

As the Ministry of Interior and Administration emphasizes, checks will be carried out on specific days and hours. Mobile patrols of the Border Guard will be involved in the operation. They will use portable devices with access to the database and equipment used to verify the authenticity of documents. The officers will also use specialized vehicles, so-called schengen vans. In addition to the aforementioned road border crossings, checks will also be restored at sea, air and rail borders.

In connection with the activities carried out by the Border Guard, drivers may expect slight delays in border crossing.

Let us remind you that this is not the first time that temporary control of internal borders will be introduced in Poland. To maintain an adequate level of security, similar activities were undertaken during UEFA Euro 2012.

Additional controls at the internal borders are the result of the 24th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP24). The summit will take place at the International Conference Center in Katowice and will last from 3 to 14 December.

Over 30,000 participants will attend COP24 from almost 200 countries. Politicians, representatives of non-governmental organizations, scientific circles and business representatives will come to Poland for the duration of the summit.
