The ban on night rest at the parking lot in Jabbeke, Belgium, will apply from today. The decision to apply such a security measure was made by the city authorities after the shootout between refugees, which occurred around the city this week.

Truckers will not be able to take overnight rests at the parking lot on the Belgian E40 motorway in Jabbeke. The ban will be in force for the next three months when the parking will be closed for the night (from 8 pm to 6 am). Daniël Vanhessche, the mayor of the city, informed about the introduction of the ban.

There are security reasons behind the decision to use this solution. During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, a shootout took place near the parking lot between the refugees.

The Belgian media report that the parking lot in Jebbeke is a favorite spot for immigrants who try to break into trucks to get to Britain.

No funds for security measures

Towards the end of 2016, security guards appeared on three parking lots along the Belgian E40 highway running along the coast. The decision was made by Belgian Minister of Transport, Ben Weyts because of the large groups of immigrants who broke into the trucks in this region. One of the protected facilities was a parking lot in Jabbeke.

The situation returned to normal when the car park was guarded by private guards, but when there was no money for protection, everything started again – comments Daniël Vanhessche for hln.be.
