A new notorious record of overloading a truck was broken by a Ukrainian driver. This time, the vehicle was overloaded by 162 tonnes. Impossible? Not at all.

In the Odessa oblast, the police stopped a truck transporting goods to Ivano-Frankivsk, a city in western Ukraine, 130 kilometers from Lviv. As the press agency Ukrainian Information Service reports, the vehicle transported 202 tonnes of cargo. Considering the fact that in Ukraine the limit of load on public roads is no more than 40 tonnes, it means that the vehicle was overloaded by as many as 162 tonnes!

The previous record-holder in Ukraine was overloaded by 115 tonnes.

Plague of careless drivers and carriers

Although drivers themselves try to combat the plague of overloaded vehicles in Ukraine (last year, the group of truckers organized a campaign during which they compulsorily weighed trucks and escorted the overloaded ones to the police station), the problem still exists.

According to the data of road services, in Ukraine, every 10th truck weighed is overloaded. Since the beginning of the year, drivers have paid for overloaded vehicles in total 6 million hryvnias (ca. 190 thousand euro) in fines.
