Road police in North West France have taken a truck driver into custody after clocking him driving his Scania lorry at over 90mph.

Writing on Facebook, the Gendarmerie in the Somme region stated that one of its vehicles had intercepted a truck that was reported driving at an abnormally high speed.

During the tachograph inspection, several speeding violations were detected, including one instance in which the truck reached speeds of 147 kilometres per hour.

After being questioned by the police, the driver of the Scania admitted to removing two fuses in order to achieve a higher top speed.

The driver was ordered to leave a deposit of €3,500 and will now be prosecuted. The truck was allowed back on the road after it had been restored to its normal specification.
