The plan for the Welcome Break Services includes an 8 pump fuel station, as well as rest and relaxation facilities inside a building with restaurants and shops. In addition, the site would have toilet and shower facilities as well as a drive-thru cafe.
When it comes to parking, the services is planned to have spaces for cars, vans, LGVs, motorbikes, bikes, coaches and HGVs. For the latter, a HGV zone would also provide refuelling facilities, 24 hour parking and a place for a lorry with an abnormal load.
As written by the Nottingham Post, those behind plans said the following in the planning application:
“The site is in an enviably convenient location to efficiently provide a range of services to an array of motorists. The development will provide local jobs in a rural location, meet unmet need for facilities (including for HGV drivers), overprovide relative to EV charging and provide biodiversity enhancements that go well beyond policy targets. The proposal therefore accords with the three overarching objectives of sustainable development (economic, social and environmental) as set out in the NPPF, and should be supported in these terms.”
