From 26 June 2025, the directional carriageway in Slovenia towards Ljubljana will be completely closed. During this time, traffic will be diverted to the opposite carriageway, with two-way traffic operating on a single lane in each direction. According to DARS, the Motorway Company of the Republic of Slovenia, this traffic arrangement is expected to remain in place for 90 days, until the end of September.
The Motorway Company of the Republic of Slovenia (DARS) has released an infographic illustrating the new traffic layout.
In addition, the motorway entrance at Slovenske Konjice towards Ljubljana will be closed throughout the same period. Vehicles travelling from Celje towards Slovenske Konjice also faced a full closure between 24 and 26 June, with traffic diverted onto regional roads via Celje – Vojnik – Frankolovo – Slovenske Konjice.
The closures are part of a wider reconstruction project on the Styrian section of the A1 motorway (E57), which includes the renovation of 13 kilometres of roadway in both directions, as well as major works on two tunnels (Pletovarje and Golo rebro) and three viaducts (Škedenj I, Škedenj II, and Grapa).
Heavy goods vehicles without a local delivery or destination are not permitted to use local or national roads in the area, and are advised to remain on the motorway. According to DARS, “detours on regional roads will take even longer”, especially during peak hours.
The affected section carries an average of 41,300 vehicles per day, including 6,860 freight vehicles, making it a critical link in Slovenia’s transport network.
Further works will continue in 2026, during which the directional carriageway towards Maribor is also scheduled to be closed during the summer months, with traffic again running in both directions on the opposite carriageway.
