Spain relax drivers’ hours rules for truckers coming from UK

The Spanish Transport Association has announced that the Spanish Government has relaxed drivers’ hours rules for those truckers currently stuck at the UK border.

The changes permitted to drivers who have been stuck in the backlog in Kent are as follows:

  • Daily driving : maximum daily driving period extended from 9 hours to 11 hours.
  • Biweekly Driving:  maximum bi-weekly driving hours extended from 90 hours to 96 hours.
  • Weekly Rest:  may be postponed until six 24-hour periods have elapsed.
  • Rest in the cabin:  drivers may observe their rest in the cabin, as long as the vehicle is adequately equipped for rest and is parked.

The changes apply until January 13th, 2021.

The UK and Belgium have also announced similar relaxations to the EU drivers’ hours rules.
