The Spanish transport sector is opposed to the mandatory diversion of lorries from two national roads to toll roads in Catalonia. After the protests of October 11, carriers’ organizations announced further blockades.

The Federation of Car Transport Entrepreneurs (FEAT) has announced protest actions – for today and 5 November. The reason is the redirection of truck traffic from national roads N-240 N-340 to paid AP-2 and AP-7 highways in Catalonia. The ban on free-of-charge traffic increases the business costs of Spanish companies by an average of 400 euros per month.

Today, carriers will meet at 4 pm in Tarragona at the parking lot under the Riu Clar economic zone. From there, at 5 pm they will start at a slow pace towards A-27/T-11/A-27/A-7 (north) and towards N-340/AP-7 (entry 32, Altafulla to the south) and towards AP-7 (entry 33).

At the Altafulla roundabout, heading for entry no. 32 on the highway, the trucks will stop for 30 minutes. Then they will head towards exit 33 towards the Riu Clar economic zone.

In the area of Tierras del Ebro, a meeting of drivers and carriers is planned at the L’Aldea roundabout at 4.30 pm. From there, the trucks will drive slowly along the N-340 road to Alcanar, where they will turn back to take the same route off the N-340. Away from the road, they will stop for 30 minutes to block traffic.

In Bellvey, carriers will meet at the restaurant „101 bocatas” at 4:15 pm. Then they will take the N-340 south to El Vendrel, where they will stop for half an hour (at the roundabout leading to the entries on C-32 and AP-7).

Another protest of the Spaniards

Everyone says that road transport is needed, but nobody wants to see trucks on the roads. We can not accept this,” says Josep Lluís Aymat, head of FEAT.

Carriers for the first time protested on October 11. 250 trucks took part in the campaign. Slow driving dozens of trucks caused multi-kilometer plugs.

The next protest action is to take place on November 5. The details are not known yet.
