Sweden to boost border controls until May 11, 2024

The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs that the national authorities in Sweden have announced the reinstatement of controls at its state borders until May 11, 2024.

Thus, all EU and non-EU citizens are advised to ensure that they have a valid identity document (passport or identity card) with them at all times during their journey to and from the Kingdom of Sweden. Also, this measure might lead to slight increases în border transit time, the Swedish authorities warn.

According to the Swedish police’s official website, border controls at external borders are mandatory regardless of citizenship., Hhowever, entry and exit regulations differ depending on the individual’s citizenship, which country they travel to or from, and the purpose and your length of stay.

This type of extended border controls was reinstated by the EU in accordance with the provisions of articles 25 and 27 of the Schengen Borders Code, after the attacks that took place in Paris on November 13, 2015.
