The German Ministry of Transport relaxes cabotage controls

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the German Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) issued a recommendation according to which inspection officers should not check or punish the violations of cabotage regulations.

Authorities responsible for checking and punishing administrative offences of road transport of goods are asked to refrain from prosecuting and punishing violations of road transport law, authorization requirement and cabotage regulations by 30 September 2020 „- as the letter by Tamara Zieschang, Secretary of State BMVI, to the relevant authorities in Germany declares.

However, the above guidelines apply only to the transport of:

– everyday products (particularly human and animal food) between production, storage and sales sites;

– articles for medical care, as well as for stopping and controlling the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic (in particular test products, protective equipment against infection, disinfectants, etc.),

– fuel.

So far, the authorities of Lower Saxony have followed the guidelines.
