Elizabeth Borne, the French Minister for Transport, met with trade unionists to discuss plans related to the transport industry, or rather its financial contribution to the expansion and modernization of infrastructure in France. The minister admitted that the government is still working on two projects. They are a fuel tax (TICPE), which is expected to increase from next year and a temporary vignette for trucks over 12 tonnes. This time, the amount of the new tax was disclosed.

The debate on the vignette for trucks in France has been going on for several months. This is a controversial topic that not only the trade unionists but also politicians, including those at the European level, have been involved in.

According to recent reports, the vignette was supposed to apply only to foreign trucks. Such a proposal was presented by François De Rugy, Minister of Ecology. Last week, Minister Borne returned to the original version of the vignette, i.e. one that would apply to all trucks moving on French roads. Both French and foreign – informs the French industry portal Actu-transport-logistique.fr

430 euros a year from a truck

The French National Federation of Road Transport (FNTR) states that the government’s draft assumes a „fee of 430 euros per year for 3-axle vehicles and 1200 euros per year for vehicles with 4 or more axes.” The tax will apply to trucks with a GVW above 12 tonnes.

In the case of French trucks, carriers will be able to deduct the amount for the tax vignette if they submit an application together with a refund request for a fuel tax.
