Police unimpressed by makeshift toe-rope used to recover broken-down HGV

Last week, officers from the road police department in Göttingen came across what they referred to as a “creative" way of towing a fully loaded lorry that had broken down.

The police explained via its Facebook Page that due to suffering a technical fault, a lorry that had been on the A7 near Nörten-Hardenberg eventually ground to a halt.

According to officers, instead of ordering a breakdown service, or procuring the right equipment, a colleague was called in to conjure up a slapdash means of towing away the broken lorry.

Two heavily-worn buckling belts were used to tow the broken-down 40-ton lorry, which there then “secured” with the help of a plastic bottle.

The lorry was escorted to Leineholz, where a breakdown service was eventually called in to repair the lorry.
