During the meeting in Nürtingen, the employers and employees of the transport and logistics industry in Baden-Württemberg managed to reach an agreement. Wages will increase.

According to the German media, the Association of Forwarders and Logistics of Baden-Württemberg (AVSL) concluded a collective agreement with the United Trade Union of Service Employees Ver.di. Salaries will increase twice in the near future  – on June 1 this year by 3.2 percent, and on April 1, 2019, by a further 2.6 percent.

Trainees, on the other hand, will receive 40 euro increase this year and 40 euro increase in 2019.

The collective agreement is valid in the district of Württemberg/Nordbaden with retroactive effect until April 1, 2018. It has been concluded for 25 months.

Editor’s comment

A collective agreement and a slight increase in drivers wages in one of the German States is seemingly trivial and irrelevant information. However, it may soon become important. If new provisions on the posting of workers come into force („the same pay for the same work”), collective agreements will form the basis for calculating salaries for drivers executing foreign transport.

In western Europe, in countries such as France, Spain or Italy, there are even dozens of such systems only in the transport industry. The degree of complexity of such settlements, if they are feasible at all, will make it difficult or even impossible to operate not only for Eastern carriers. Germany, who is still at the forefront of international transport, will be equally affected by the EU regulations.
