A truck has allegedly been clamped in Kent while parked at a layby waiting for a tyre replacement, sparking yet more criticism over Kent County Council’s strict HGV parking ban.
According to sources close to Trans.INFO, on Friday 16th April, Kent Police advised a Romanian registered HGV with a damaged trailer tyre to move off the A20 and park in a layby on Folkestone Road.
The Police allegedly stated the layby was a safer place for him to park, and the driver did as instructed. Tyre fitters were called just before midnight, but a little over 2 hours later, the truck had been clamped.
A tyre fitter was ordered to come in first thing in the morning rather than immediately, as mechanics were also required to look into the brake chamber fault that had burst the old tyre.
In an email addressed to several councillors in Kent, campaigner Sebastian Barrow described the aforementioned clamping as “despicable”:
Now is this the way for a caring KCC to operate? You should be automatically refunding any fines paid to get released as yet again, NSL [the company responsible for the monitoring of parking] have overstepped the mark! I have attached pictures as evidence of the event. But of course, the chances of him appealing are small, being foreign, which makes this clamping even more despicable!
