Details of the tragedy have been published by the Slovakian police, who yesterday confirmed the accident had occurred at 9am in an industrial area by the village of Záborské.
In the police’s statement, it is said that a 50-year-old truck driver, for an as-yet unknown reason, seemingly accidentally ran over a 44-year-old Polish lorry driver name Mariusz. The police added the driver who was run over succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
The driver who caused the fatal accident was found to be completely sober. A homicide investigation is now being conducted in connection with the accident to determine what happened and whether the driver who was behind the wheel was culpable in any way.
Tomáš Bezák, a spokesperson for Lidl, told tvnoviny.sk that Lidl Slovakia would “not comment further on the accident due to the ongoing investigation, the sensitivity of the situation and respect for the deceased.”
Alena Krčová, spokesperson for the emergency services, told the same media outlet: “I can confirm we sent out paramedics to the injured man. Unfortunately, they were unable to help him.”
