The ROADPOL Truck & Bus operation is a regular inspection campaign organised by the European Roads Policing Network, with participation from most EU member states. Its aim is to improve road safety and reduce the number of accidents involving lorries and buses.
The upcoming operation, taking place from 17 to 23 November, will focus primarily on inspecting the technical condition of vehicles and their loads, as well as compliance with regulations on driving times, rest periods, and tachograph use.
ROADPOL notes that such operations are also an opportunity for cross-border cooperation. During the week, accident data is analysed, risky behaviours are identified, and joint recommendations are developed to improve the effectiveness of road policing.
What does the Truck & Bus operation involve?
During the operation, officers conduct checks both on major transit routes and near logistics hubs or lorry parks. In addition to transport documents and tachographs, police examine the load and its securing, tyre condition, lighting, and braking systems.
Particular attention is paid to compliance with social regulations – namely drivers’ working hours, rest periods, and breaks. In recent years, ROADPOL has also focused strongly on cases of vehicle overloading and tachograph manipulation.
According to the organisation, these actions serve a dual purpose: improving road safety while also ensuring fair competition among hauliers operating across Europe.
2026 operation calendar
ROADPOL will continue the Truck & Bus inspections next year. Three pan-European operations are planned for 2026:
- 9–15 February 2026
- 4–10 May 2026
- 16–22 November 2026
During each of these weeks, road police across Europe will carry out coordinated checks focused on heavy-goods transport safety.
