A lorry driver was caught eating from a bowl while driving a 44-ton truck on the M1 in Leicestershire last week. The incident was deemed unacceptable by officers.
As many of our readers will no doubt be aware of, road police in the UK are using unmarked HGVs to check if road users are complying with the laws of the road. The higher vantage point offered by the lorries allows officers to see if motorists are using their mobile phones will driving among other things.
In a tweet condemning the aforementioned trucker for eating while on the motorway – during which time he had no hands on the wheel – Leicestershire Police said the stunt was “not acceptable in any way” before adding that the driver had been “dealt with accordingly”.
And here it is…. driving a 44 tonne potential killing machine whilst cleaning your bowl!! … neither hand properly holding the steering wheel. This is NOT acceptable in any way! Driver dealt with accordingly! #OpTramline #motorway #RPU @leicspolice @MarieBiddulph1 pic.twitter.com/MNHA9wUrbB

Besides the incident referred to above, Leicestershire Police also caught a van driver using his mobile while driving – resulting in a £200 fine.
This driver visiting the UK from Lithuania wasn’t aware you couldn’t drive and use your mobile phone here. This resulted in quite an expensive trip through Leicestershire for him. £200 roadside fine issued. #fatal4 #motorway #Optramline @leicspolice @MarieBiddulph1 pic.twitter.com/ZpOuXXVMul
