Police officers from France's Aude region recently arrested an HGV driver who had stolen fuel from the tanks of other trucks on the Vinassan rest area on the A9 motorway. Despite stealing 1,200 litres of fuel for his own benefit, the lorry driver has escaped with a suspended prison sentence.

The case was documented by the Aude Police department on its Facebook Page yesterday.

Officers say the lorry driver was arrested in the early hours of February 26th after being caught stealing fuel from other trucks.

The thief’s vehicle was found to have an electric pump and hose onboard that he had used to steal at least 1,200 litres of fuel.

According to Aude Police, it is the third recorded crime of this nature in the area in less than a week.

The thief nonetheless managed to avoid jail time after being handed a 12 month suspended sentence for his crimes.
