Trucker who lost his sight keeps working in the transport industry. Disability does not stop him from realizing his dreams

This is a story of great determination and a fight for a better future. Three years ago, the life of the young trucker Roel Cano turned upside down. The man unexpectedly lost his sight due to medical complications. It was clear that he would not be able to drive the trucks anymore. However, Roel continued to work. With the help of good people, he managed to open a transport company.

The extraordinary story of this young American was described by livetrucking.com. Roela has always been fascinated by trucks. When he turned 18, he set on the road behind the wheel of a truck, which because of the color of the lacquer, was affectionately called „Big Blue” (big and blue).

Everything changed in one day. While relaxing on the beach at Calumet Park in Chicago, an unexpected situation took place. Cano, when in the water, began to feel bad. He tried to get up slowly when he suddenly felt numbness in the foot that was starting to spread all over his body. At one moment his eyes went foggy, and he lost consciousness and fell. His wife quickly ran for help. The rescuer pulled him out of the water. Cano was transported to the hospital. However, despite the help provided, he did not feel better. During the week he lost his sight completely. After a series of specialized tests, it turned out that the retina in the eyes began to stratify. Unfortunately, doctors could not help him.

He did not give up

The first weeks after losing sight were difficult. The man lost motivation. He could not accept that he was disabled and could not drive his beloved truck. Sometime later, however, he started going to school for the blind, where he learned to deal with disability. O,n his way he met people who helped him move forward. Along with their help, Cano wrote out a business plan and collected the necessary funds. The man wanted to open his own transport company – Cano Logistic. After some time Roel bought the first truck, he also hired the first employee.

I felt so good when I picked up my truck,” Cano admitted.

Currently, Cano raises funds to buy a second vehicle because his business is prospering. Cano proves that if you only love something, you can overcome even the most difficult obstacle.
