Truckers around the world point out blunders in Liam Neeson’s Ice Road movie

Liam Neeson’s new movie the Ice Road has only been streaming for a few days, but so far lorry drivers haven’t been shy to express their thoughts about it. When a thriller is called hilarious, it’s never a good sign.

While many real-life lorry drivers think the movie is hilarious because of the many mistakes the director made, it might still become a blockbuster for Netflix thanks to the millions of drivers joining the mistake spotting game.

This is the post that started the avalanche of comments:

“They roll out of the shop driving W990s. All the crash scenes they use T680s then go back to W990s. This movie was driving me crazy,” said one commenter on the post.

“I watched it.. kept telling myself it’s a movie. Trying not to pick it apart and just focus on the plot. Bad guys are hard to kill!! Almost lost my dinner watching Lawrence get his lower leg about ripped off. I have broken bones, it gets to me in movies because I know how it feels. Then I was disappointed he had such a small part” – writes another commenter.

Apart from the most obvious mistake – that is the non-consistent use of vehicles – drivers found great joy in shredding different parts of the movie.

If that wasn’t enough,  there were many other professional problems in the movie.

“How about when they’re running on the ice Road less than one car length apart, don’t get me wrong I’ve never done it but watching the documentaries every time I seen it the trucks were always a quarter mile apart. Also when he pulled the container out of the side of an avalanche uphill with no snow chains on at all,” said one commenter.

And yes, even the lorry drivers who advertise the movie in Netflix’s short video admit that this would have been far too dangerous in real life.

In the clip embedded above, two real-life ice road truckers, Todd Dewey and Lisa Kelly, break down just how realistic The Ice Road is.

“They said a 200 foot spacing between trucks then realise that is nowhere near enough spacing on ice. There’s way more of the distance to that. There has been issues where one of our trucks broke down in the middle of an ice crossing. So we’ll do I have like 600 foot rope 700 foot ropes, to actually connect them. You go way out in front of them really slow, get the rope tight and then you just start dragging hem” – says Dewey.

The thriller can be watched on Amazon Prime Video if you are in the UK and Netflix elsewhere.
