Hauliers operating along the France–Italy corridor are being advised to prepare for night-time closures and traffic restrictions at both the Mont Blanc and Fréjus tunnels between mid-June and early July 2025. The disruptions are due to scheduled maintenance and safety works, with implications for time-sensitive freight transport.
Mont Blanc Tunnel closures and one-way traffic
According to the Mont Blanc tunnel operator GEIE-TMB, six complete overnight closures and four nights of alternating one-way traffic are planned between 16 June and 4 July 2025. Only the following remain in effect after 23 June:
Full closures affecting both directions:
- Thursday 26 June, 22:00 – Friday 27 June, 06:00
- Monday 30 June, 22:00 – Tuesday 1 July, 06:00
Alternating one-way traffic from 22:30 to 06:00:
- Night of Wednesday 25 to Thursday 26 June
- Night of Tuesday 1 to Wednesday 2 July
- Night of Wednesday 2 to Thursday 3 July
- Night of Thursday 3 to Friday 4 July
Traffic during one-way alternation will be regulated by lights or tunnel personnel. Delays are expected, especially for HGVs, and drivers are urged to follow on-site signage and official guidance.
Fréjus Tunnel restrictions in June
Traffic at the Fréjus Tunnel will also be affected throughout June with alternating one-way traffic on most nights.
There will be no alternation on the nights of 28 and 29 June. On all other nights between 9 and 29 June, alternating one-way traffic will apply, based on the following pattern:
Time slot | Direction Italy to France | Direction France to Italy |
22:30 – 23:15 | Closed | Closed |
23:15 – 23:55 | Open | Closed |
00:10 – 00:50 | Closed | Open |
