A new safe and secure parking area dedicated to truck drivers at the Quadrante Europa Interport of Verona, Italy, funded by both national and European sources was opened on the 1st March, reports Uomini e Transporti.

The parking area covers approximately 5,500 square metres and currently has 42 parking spaces for heavy vehicles, manoeuvring areas, and transit zones for vehicles and pedestrians, the article reads.

The parking area meets European safety, quality, and connectivity requirements, equipped with LED lighting, camera systems, fencing, and intrusion barriers, and is connected to the telematic network of the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

The construction of the secure parking area began in 2021 and cost €1.1 million, with funding from both national and European sources.

The Pass4Core project, in which the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport participates through the Central Committee of the Transporters’ Register, has provided funding of around €27.5 million to create 1,357 safe parking spaces for heavy vehicles distributed over 13 areas.
