According to the companies’ joint statement, MOL and Waberer’s have developed a strong relationship in complex logistics services and fuel sales in recent years. The new strategic agreement aims to further strengthen their traditional business activities and facilitate joint projects related to mobility, sustainability and energy efficiency.

As part of the agreement, MOL will acquire a 15% stake in Waberer’s from the Indotek Group. The cooperation will focus on the sale of fuels and lubricants, the development of alternative fuels, the exchange of knowledge on energy efficiency, and the establishment of special filling and service stations.

Dr György Bacsa, Managing Director of MOL Hungary, was optimistic about the partnership, which he said could have a positive impact not only in Hungary but also regionally. Both companies are committed to sustainable solutions and the cooperation aims to strengthen traditional business activities and regional supply security.

MOL’s overall goal is to successfully implement joint projects with Waberer’s and contribute to the realisation of the SHAPE TOMORROW 2030+ strategy. This strategy aims for MOL to become a key player in the low-carbon circular economy of Central and Eastern Europe and to supply the mobility sector with fuels with a low-carbon footprint.

Zsolt Barna, President and CEO of Waberer’s International Nyrt., sees the strategic agreement with MOL as a strengthening of their nearly twenty-year partnership. He believes that the collaboration, focused on sustainability solutions, can lead to greater success in Hungary and the wider region.

The two companies, both listed on the domestic stock exchange, have a long history of cooperation in various areas; Waberer’s provides complex logistics services to MOL at several locations, while MOL, as a strategic supplier, sells fuel and lubricants to Waberer’s, supporting both international transport and domestic distribution. The cooperation has been in place since 2006, with Waberer’s providing MOL with various services, including logistics for MOL’s facilities in Százhalombatta and the Slovnaft refinery in Bratislava. From October this year, a Waberer’s subsidiary will also provide production logistics services for MPK MOL Petrolkémia in Tiszaújváros.
