According to the statement released on the Budapest Stock Exchange website, Waberer’s subsidiary, KDI Property, has formally entered into a pre-purchase agreement for a 57,000 square meter parcel within an industrial zone in the city. The finalisation of the sale and purchase agreement remains contingent upon meeting additional technical and financial requirements.

Financing for the land acquisition and facility construction will be sourced from KDI Property’s internal funds, external financing, and a grant from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The grant, subject to government approval and fulfillment of contractual obligations, is accompanied by a non-binding offer.

Waberer’s Chairman-CEO, Zsolt Barna, emphasised the strategic significance of the new warehouse, stating that it will address the logistical demands arising from major automotive projects, including those led by German carmaker BMW and Chinese battery manufacturer CATL, currently underway in Debrecen.

One of the main pillars of our strategy – which we announced in November – is to build a modern warehouse network in the coming period with nationwide coverage and a low environmental footprint. To reach our goal, we started the construction of our 47,000 sqm logistics center in Ecser at the beginning of the year, which is expected to be handed over in the first half of 2024. As a next step to reach our national coverage target, we will continue our expansion in Debrecen, one of the country’s fastest growing regions, with the construction of a major logistics center, which, like the warehouse in Ecser, is planned to incorporate a number of environmentally conscious and energy-efficient solutions in line with the Group’s sustainability strategy.” said  Zsolt Barna, Chairman and CEO of Waberer’s, as reported by  marketscreener.com.

Barna also added that, with the new warehouse, the company will be able to meet the logistics needs of both the major automotive projects under construction in the Debrecen area, as well as of their related suppliers, while also being able to serve its existing customers in the Eastern Hungary region
