Starting 1 July 2025, each vehicle will be automatically assigned to a CO₂ class ranging from CO2 1 (highest toll rate) to CO2 5 (lowest, reserved for zero-emission vehicles). Initially, all vehicles will be placed in CO2 class 1, which is expected to apply to over 90% of the fleet, according to the Slovak transport association ČESMAD Slovakia.
No immediate action is required from hauliers, but operators can verify their vehicle’s class in the system and, if eligible, submit documents to be reclassified into a more favourable CO₂ category.
Who can apply for a higher CO₂ class?
According to the Slovak toll operator, vehicles registered before 1 July 2019 are generally not eligible for classes CO2 2–5, unless they are fully electric or hydrogen-powered—in which case they will qualify for CO2 class 5.
Vehicles registered after 1 July 2019 may qualify for a better emission class. Operators can check their vehicle’s eligibility via the search tool at www.emyto.sk/CO2. If the system indicates potential eligibility, supporting documents (e.g. registration certificate details or manufacturer documents such as CoC or CIF) can be submitted starting 1 July 2025.
Documents may be submitted via:
- the customer portal at www.emyto.sk,
- email: info@emyto.sk,
- or post, addressed to the system operator SkyToll a.s.
No penalties for inaction
Carriers who do not check or update their CO₂ classification will not be penalised. Participation is voluntary and updates can be submitted after 1 July 2025 as well.
