The 25 Spanish speed cameras that catch the most highway menaces

Excessive speed is one of the most common road offences that are committed by drivers on roads throughout Europe. Highway menaces are caught in the act mainly by traffic patrols and road cameras. Find out which stationary cameras in Spain „caught” the most people driving with a „heavy foot.”

The Spanish organisation Automovilistas Europeos Asociados (AEA) has made a list of stationary speed cameras that have registered the most instances of exceeding speed this year. During the first 10 months of 2017, the 375 stationary devices that the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) had placed on roads throughout Spain took pictures on the basis of which the police has issued fines of a total amount of 63.3 million euro. According to the AEA’s analysis, the cameras has caught a total of 1.6 million drivers exceeding speed. It is 4 percent more than in the previous year.

The devices registered the most offences in Andalusia (approx. 426 thousand reports), Castile and León (approx. 206 thousand), and Castilla-La Mancha (approx 286 thousand). The least highway menaces were „caught” by the cameras in Cantabria (approx. 22 thousand), Asturias (approx. 22 thousand), and Extremadura (approx. 24 thousand).

The speed cameras that registered the most offences in the period from January to November of this year:

1. Segovia N-VI – 59.2 km: approx. 55 thousand fines of a total amount of 2.6 million euro;

2. Jaén A-44 – 76.3 km: approx. 54 thousand fines of a total amount of 2.06 million euro;

3. Málaga A-7 – 256.7 km: approx. 47 thousand fines of a total amount of approx. 1.8 million euro;

4. Málaga A-7 – 246 km: approx. 41.5 thousand fines of a total amount of approx. 1.3 million euro;

5. Málaga MA-20 – 10.4 km: approx. 33 thousand fines of a total amount of approx. 1.2 million euro;

6. Córdoba A-4 – 417.5 km: approx. 30.1 thousand fines of a total amount of approx. 1.5 million euro;

7. Huesca N-240 – 202 km: approx. 30 thousand fines of a total amount of approx. 1.25 million euro;

8. Santa Cruz de Tenerife TF-13 – 0.5 km: approx. 24 thousand fines of a total amount of approx. 766 thousand euro;

9. Burgos A-1 – 234.4 km: approx. 22 thousand fines of a total amount of approx. 903 thousand euro;

10. Toledo M-305 – 0.7 km: approx. 21 thousand fines of a total amount of approx. 727 thousand euro;

11. Cádiz A-381 – 74.7 km: approx. 20.5 thousand fines of a total amount of approx. 660 thousand euro;

12. Salamanca A-66 – 340.4 km: approx. 19.6 thousand fines of a total amount of approx. 780 thousand euro;

13. Navarra A-15 – 127.6 km: approx. 19.3 thousand fines of a total amount of approx. 1.4 million euro;

14. Ciudad Real A-4 – 230.8 km: approx. 18.5 thousand fines of a total amount of approx. 596 thousand euro;

15. Toledo CM-4008 – 2.8 km: approx. 17 thousand fines of a total amount of approx. 623 thousand euro;

16. Castellón AP-7 – 390.6 km: approx. 16.7 thousand fines of a total amount of approx. 640.5 thousand euro;

17. Toledo A-42 – 71.4 km: approx. 16.4 thousand fines of a total amount of approx. 730 thousand euro;
