In response to the chaos, local authorities including Derbyshire Police, Highways England East Midlands, Derbyshire Urban Traffic Flow, and Derbyshire Armed Response Unit responded swiftly and restored normal traffic flow by 3pm, however, it meant that traffic remained congested even until the evening peak.
