Lithuanian carrier TRANSTIRA is pressing ahead with its long-distance fleet expansion, placing an order for more than 500 Mercedes-Benz Actros L ProCabin tractor units. The trucks are scheduled to be delivered in 2026, making this one of the largest fleet deals announced this year in Central and Eastern Europe.

Based in Vilnius, the operator says the purchase supports two goals at once: boosting international transport capacity and accelerating fleet renewal. When selecting the vehicles, the company prioritised predictable fuel use, total cost of ownership, and better working conditions for drivers.

More than 500 Actros units headed to TRANSTIRA

Mercedes-Benz Trucks will supply TRANSTIRA with over 500 Actros L ProCabin vehicles. They will be deployed on long-haul services across European routes.

Paulius Kraučiūnas, Sales Director for the truck division at Veho Lithuania (responsible for Mercedes-Benz Trucks sales and service in Lithuania), notes that carriers are increasingly weighing driver comfort alongside operating costs.

“The deciding factors were predictable fuel consumption costs and the overall costs of using the vehicles. At the same time, comfort, satisfaction and working conditions for drivers are becoming more and more important,” said the Veho representative.

According to the manufacturer, the Actros L ProCabin was developed with aerodynamics and efficiency in mind. An 80 mm longer cab front, improved airflow and fewer gaps between body elements are intended to cut fuel consumption by up to 3 percent in long-haul operations.

Further efficiency gains are expected from the third generation of the OM 471 engine. Daimler says the solution supports more economical driving and helps reduce overall fleet operating costs.

Driver comfort and digital fleet support

TRANSTIRA also pointed to cab equipment and features designed to make day-to-day work easier for drivers. ProCabin includes, among other updates, redesigned seats, revised beds with mattresses, additional USB-C ports and a new approach to controlling vehicle functions.

The Lithuanian operator is also using My TruckPoint and Fleetboard Uptime, which enable vehicle data monitoring, service planning and a reduction in the risk of unplanned downtime.

The ordered tractors will also come with the latest safety and driver assistance systems, including Active Brake Assist 6 Plus and Active Sideguard Assist 2. Predictive Powertrain Control is intended to support more anticipatory and efficient driving on long routes.

Lithuanian fleets step up investment in modern trucks

Lithuania’s road transport market has clearly accelerated investment in modern long-haul equipment. For context, Girteka ordered 2,000 Volvo FH and FH Aero trucks around a year ago. Earlier this year, the Lithuanian logistics giant also secured financing worth 74 million euro to purchase roughly 1,200 next-generation trucks.

TRANSTIRA says the new vehicles are expected to improve fuel efficiency, lower carbon dioxide emissions and raise safety levels through modern driver assistance systems and digital tools that enable real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance.

These multi-million investments underline a broader trend: the region’s biggest operators are putting more emphasis on fleet renewal, fuel performance and technologies that support international digitisation.
