At its 25 June board meeting, the Port of Barcelona authorised the transfer of 50% of shares in Terminal Catalunya (Tercat) from Barcelona Europe South Terminal (BEST) to Terminal Investment Limited Holding (TiL), a subsidiary of MSC. The deal consolidates MSC’s presence at the Mediterranean gateway while maintaining BEST’s status as a public terminal accessible to multiple users.
The agreement includes conditions to ensure non-discriminatory access, uninterrupted service, and adherence to concession terms. It remains subject to regulatory clearance by the relevant competition authorities.
In the logistics zone ZAL Prat, the port has granted a 34-year concession to Centro Intermodal de Logística (CILSA) to develop a 99,135 m² site previously occupied by energy company TOTAL. The €42.1 million project will include a 55,000 m², 15-metre-high warehouse for Lidl, under a 15-year pre-lease agreement with options to extend.
Once operational, Lidl’s total managed space in the ZAL area will increase to 165,000 m². The facility is intended to support maritime-linked logistics and reflects the continuing shift toward centralised, port-adjacent distribution infrastructure.
The port also approved the tender for an Onshore Power Supply (OPS) system at Cruise Terminal G, operated by Royal Caribbean Group. The €12.6 million contract includes the design, construction and maintenance of infrastructure that will allow ships to connect to the local power grid while docked, reducing emissions and supporting sustainability targets.
This forms part of the port’s broader Nexigen Plan, which has allocated €44 million since 2021 toward electrifying its wharves. The OPS installation is expected to be operational by the end of 2027, in coordination with the launch of a new medium-voltage network and substation.
