In a statement sent to its clients, the company said it had made the decision as it strives “to provide continued commitment” to its “valued customers”.
In the meantime, before the Sheerness-Calais service returns, DFDS said it would continue to temporarily operate unaccompanied services between Calais and Dover exclusively for its existing Calais <> Sheerness unaccompanied shipping customers, with a view to ceasing this service in line with the reinstatement of the Calais <> Sheerness route.
The news comes as freight traffic between Dover and Calais continues to suffer from congestion issues, particularly on the A20 en-route to Dover, where Operation TAP was deployed again yesterday.
