Fattal is a Beirut-headquartered family business founded in 1897. It operates in eight countries: Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, the UAE, Algeria, Egypt, France and Cyprus. CMA CGM describes it as one of the most important distributor agents of international brands in the MENA region.

The company is focused on distribution, warehousing and promotion rather than transport. Its main business areas are consumer goods and electronics, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, and perfumes and cosmetics. Fattal’s own website says it reaches millions of consumers in the region. This means CMA CGM is buying a downstream distribution platform with established access to retail and healthcare markets across several MENA countries.

The acquisition adds to a recent run of deals by CMA CGM and CEVA, including Borusan Tedarik in Turkey, Air Belgium’s cargo business and Fagioli in Italy.
