The European freight transport market faces the challenge of decarbonisation. DAF, as one of the pioneers in the electric commercial vehicle sector, is expanding its range, allowing operators to achieve zero-emission transport without compromising on performance and safety. Innovations such as Daimler Truck’s GenH2 hydrogen tests in the Swiss Alps are also paving the way for a cleaner future, showcasing the industry’s commitment to sustainability.
Modern PACCAR EX-D1 and EX-D2 drivetrains
The DAF XD Electric and XF Electric are powered by high-efficiency permanent magnet electric motors PACCAR EX-D1 and PACCAR EX-D2, coupled with an integrated three-speed planetary gearbox. During partial load, only one motor operates, maximising energy efficiency. When accelerating or driving on challenging terrain, the second motor is automatically activated, ensuring smooth and dynamic acceleration. The solution is compact and lightweight, which increases the vehicle’s payload.
Modular LFP batteries – from 210 to 525 kWh
DAF offers modular lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery packs:
- configurations from 2 to 5 batteries, with capacities ranging from 210 to 525 kWh.
- zero-emission range from 200 to over 500 km on a single charge, with the possibility of covering up to 1000 km daily with proper planning.
- the batteries are safe, cobalt- and nickel-free, and can be charged to 100% capacity without affecting longevity, covered by an 8-year warranty.
- fast DC charging up to 325 kW: 3 batteries to 80% in 45 minutes, 5 batteries in 2 hours.
Driver safety and comfort
DAF also focuses on maximum ergonomics and visibility. The low-positioned cab, large front windscreen, DAF Digital Vision System and DAF Corner View systems enhance safety. The one-pedal driving feature and digital dashboard simplify operation. The new generation vehicles are available as tractors and 4×2 and 6×2 chassis for body mounting, with modular battery placement for easy body installation. Additionally, the optional 650 V e-PTO enables power supply for auxiliary devices.
