Deutsche Post responds to the overall increase in costs and higher transport prices. Shipment of goods up to 1000 grams will cost more.

From July 1, Deutsche Post will raise prices for sending books and goods up to 1000 grams. According to the company’s press release, the price for shipping a book to 500 grams will increase by 20 cents (to 1.20 euros). Shipment of the book „Maxi” (up to 1000 grams) will soon cost 1.70 euros instead of 1.65 euros.

In addition, postage for shipments up to 50 grams will be increased from 0.90 to 1.30 euros. On the other hand, the shipment of goods up to 500 grams will increase from 1.90 to 2.20 EUR. The prices of other services, e.g. a standard letter, will not change.

Deutsche Post explains the decision citing the increase in overall costs and the need for further investments to ensure the quality of services in the long term. Not without significance is also the fact that on 1 July, tolls will be extended in Germany.

Other carriers are also raising prices

At the beginning of this year, the freight rates increase has been announced by two large companies on the market. On March 1 this year, Hermes Germany raised prices by 4.5 percent. In addition, the company will add to the price of the shipment an additional fee in the pre-holiday season. The decision on the increase was made with a view to investing in employees, which are becoming increasingly scarce in Germany.

In turn, GO! Express & Logistics, which specializes in the transport of express parcels, increased rates for services in February this year an average of 4.2 percent.
