On December 7th, DPD revealed plans to cut up to 1,400 jobs out of its current 9,600 positions within the next two years. According to the company, the decision aims to bolster competitiveness and ensure long-term performance in response to challenging market conditions, inflation-related cost escalations, and evolving customer behavior.

The job reductions are intended to be implemented „as socially acceptable as possible”, the company stated.

As verkehrsrundschau.de reports, the company, a significant player in the German parcel industry, witnessed a surge in transport volume during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a seven percent increase in 2021.

However, post-pandemic demand decline led to an 8.8 percent reduction in parcel shipments in Germany in 2022, prompting the need for restructuring.

DPD, a subsidiary of the French company Geopost, competes with industry giants like DHL, Hermes, GLS, and UPS in the German parcel delivery landscape. The job cuts are part of DPD’s strategy to adapt and enhance agility in the face of changing market dynamics.
