As every year, truck drivers operating in France must take into account additional regional traffic bans. The French Ministry of the Interior has introduced restrictions for vehicles over 7.5 tonnes on Saturdays in February, as well as on selected Saturdays during the summer, with the aim of improving road safety and reducing congestion at critical points of the road network.
This year, the additional winter restrictions apply on Saturdays 7, 14, 21 and 28 February, from 7:00 to 18:00. The measures are intended to ease traffic pressure during the winter period, particularly in areas sensitive to congestion and safety risks.
The bans affect not only major international routes but also regional and secondary roads, especially in the Rhône-Alpes region, where winter conditions can make traffic flows particularly vulnerable. Drivers are advised to plan routes and transit times carefully to avoid fines and delivery disruptions.

Summer truck traffic bans
Under the same regulation, nationwide summer traffic restrictions will also apply. Vehicles over 7.5 tonnes will be prohibited from travelling on the entire French road network on Saturdays 11, 18 and 25 July, and 1 and 8 August 2026, between 7:00 and 19:00.
Exemptions
The bans do not apply, among others, to:
- the transport of live animals, perishable goods and agricultural products (where these account for at least half of the load),
- the transport of equipment for shows, fireworks and press activities on the same day or the following day,
- the relocation of offices or factories within the same city or region,
- medical transport, including medical gases, hospital waste and radiographic equipment.
