The big news of the week is the large amount of money invested in e-commerce fulfilment companies last week! $391M raised in one week!!!!

…ShipMonk Raised $290M, Flexe $70M & Stord $31M! The pandemic has definitely created a huge momentum to all the companies fulfilling e-commerce businesses!

Bloomberg also reported that private equity firm KKR is close to acquiring about 100 warehouses in the U.S. for more than $800M, this is following a huge move last year from PE firm Blackstone who bought more than $25Bln worth of industrial properties.

In Ecommerce logistics costs, 50% of the costs is fulfilment & 50% is the last mile on average! Investment is fulfilment are lagging far behind and it seems that this will start to change!

Cyber Monday Rings Up $10.8 Billion In Record Sales

Cyber Monday reached $10.8 billion in sales smashing records for the biggest online shopping day ever. While many shopped online on Black Friday and in the pre-sale period, Cyber Monday was still a success with an increase of 15.1% compared to last year.

Walmart+ takes on Prime by dropping $35 minimum on Walmart.com purchases

The war between Amazon and Walmart continue and this is another move from Walmart+ to fight against Prime dominance.

starting on Friday, December 4, it will remove the $35 shipping minimum on orders from Walmart .com for its members. Prime members have already this perks so this is still a catch up move from Walmart rather than a competitive edge!

US shopping app downloads on Black Friday reached a record 2.8M installs

While the most downloaded app of 2020 is TikTok, we have seen a record of 2.8M installs of shopping apps on black Friday

What does it mean? Consumers are not only buying on the traditional marketplaces but we are seeing an expansion of the channels and ways to purchase online, which is a good thing for the industry!

Fedex acquires Shoprunner to expand Ecommerce capabilities

 Fedex is expanding e-commerce capabilities with the acquisition of Shoprunner! Headquartered in Chicago, ShopRunner connects millions of consumers to more than 100 brands and offers a seamless shopping experience across merchants. Among the ShopRunner benefits to members are free two-day shipping, free returns, member-exclusive discounts, and seamless checkout. ShopRunner’s data-driven marketing and omnichannel enablement capabilities also help merchants acquire high-value customers and accelerate their digital innovation by using ShopRunner’s e-commerce platform.

Ankorstore raises $29.9 million for its wholesale marketplace

French startup Ankorstore has raised a $29.9 million Series A round. The company is building a wholesale marketplace that connects independent shop owners with brands selling household supplies, maple syrup, headbands, bath salts, stationery items and a lot more.

The company works with 2,000 brands and 15,000 shops. The company is present in in eight countries (France, Spain, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland and Luxembourg) and plan to expand to the UK.

The e-commerce boom continues to grow also in the B2B space and this kind of marketplaces will open doors for a large opportunity in that space.
