The German Press Agency has seen a draft by the Federal Ministry of Transport to amend the Federal Highway Toll Act. According to the document, the HGV road toll in Germany will increase at the beginning of 2023.

The country is aiming to increase revenue collected from HGV road tolls; the annual average between 2023 and 2027 should be around 8.3 billion euros. Last year, revenue was around 7.6 billion euros, adds the DPA.

The increased toll will be used to finance road infrastructure. The draft reportedly states that passing on the increased transport costs could indirectly lead to higher prices for the transported goods.
