According to officers, the drivers of the two lorries photographed above “decided to pass the service station and park up on the hard shoulder for their break.”
Greater Manchester Police added that it was “unacceptable” to use the hard shoulder “as a toilet in view of other motorists” before urging motorists to use the services.
The two truckers were by no means the only drivers to attract the attention of Greater Manchester police over the weekend.
For example, one lorry driver was issued a load security fine for failing to cover his load with a sheet.
Another un-sheeted load stopped. Claimed it was too windy to use the sheet. Please be considerate to other road users and keep your loads safe. GFPN issued. #GMPCVU pic.twitter.com/TAN3gVU5ep

Moreover, the police detained the driver of an uninsured and defective van:

Finally, Greater Manchester road police had their eyes on cyclists as well. However, despite the cyclists referred to in the tweet below breaking UK road laws on mandatory lights after sunset, they appeared to be merely given advice. On top of that, they even received a set of lights free of charge for their trouble.
