The vehicles have been supplied by Mercedes-Benz Trucks dealer Rygor Auto and will be used on Wren’s national delivery network. According to Daimler Truck UK, the 10 electric trucks are expected to save around 580 tonnes of CO₂ per year.
Wren says the move forms part of its wider “positive planet” roadmap towards carbon neutrality. The company has also invested in dedicated on-site charging infrastructure, designed to allow simultaneous charging and give the fleet enough flexibility between shifts.
The eActros 600 is Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ long-haul electric tractor unit. The trucks delivered to Wren have an installed battery capacity of 621 kWh, of which 600 kWh is usable. Daimler says the model offers a range of at least 500 km, and up to 750 km depending on conditions and operation. The trucks can recharge from 20% to 80% in around an hour using 400 kW DC charging.
Phil Bennett, national fleet manager at Wren Kitchens, said maintaining delivery performance while improving safety and reducing emissions was critical for the company. He added that the eActros 600s also offer drivers “a significantly enhanced working environment”.
The rollout has been supported by funding from the Department for Transport’s £1 billion zero-emission vehicle programme, which is aimed at accelerating the adoption of electric trucks and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
The new trucks come alongside Wren’s wider investment in its transport operation. Earlier reports said the kitchen retailer had announced a £35 million investment in its delivery fleet, including electric HGVs, as it expands capacity and works towards its net-zero targets.
Mercedes-Benz says the eActros 600 delivers up to 600 kW of peak power and uses regenerative braking and Predictive Powertrain Control to reduce energy consumption. The vehicle is also equipped with systems including Active Brake Assist, Sideguard Assist and MirrorCam.
Chris Carter, fleet sales consultant at Rygor Auto, said the eActros was “a perfect partner” for Wren’s move towards an electrified HGV operation. Daimler Truck UK key account manager Nicola Dainter-Kemsley described the vehicles entering service with Wren as “a real milestone”.
