Checks by the Danish road police have once again resulted in a haulier being fined a significant sum for violating rules on road transport.

On this occasion, checks in the Karlslunde Rasteplads area, roughly 35km south-west of Copenhagen, saw a Turkish haulier and its driver fined DKK 586,000 (just shy of €79,000).

After checking the truck’s tachograph, the police discovered that the lorry driver had been on the road for a very long time without taking breaks. Between December 22nd and 26th 2020, the driver had rested for a maximum of 6.5 hours but clocked up more than 43 hours on the road.

In addition, the trucker had taken his driver’s license out of the tachograph whenever he was in danger of running out of legal driving time. The lorry driver was found to have done this on 17 occasions.

Two-thirds of the DKK 586,000 fine must be paid by the haulier, while the driver is responsible for paying the remainder.

The truck has been detained as a deposit for the fine, and will only be returned once the fee has been paid in full.
