HGV Road User Levy in Britain will be suspended from tomorrow

The British government has announced that it will suspend the charging and collection of the HGV Road User Levy for 12 months from 1 August 2020 to 31 July 2021. Where the levy has been paid for a non-UK heavy goods vehicle, a rebate can be claimed.

A Levy rate of zero will automatically apply at a vehicle’s normal VED/Levy renewal date from August onwards so you won’t have to do anything, as RHA informed its members.

What is HGV Road User Levy?

The HGV Road User Levy applies to heavy goods vehicles (HGV) of 12 tonnes or more. The aim of the levy is to ensure these vehicles make a contribution to the wear and tear of the road network. The levy amount varies according to the vehicle’s weight, axle configuration and levy duration.
