Hybrid Kenworth truck had its debut at this year’s Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) in California. As the manufacturer points out, this is another attempt to help American truck operators meet the requirements to reduce emissions.

Kenworth presented the T680 HECT (Hybrid Electric Cargo Transport) model. The truck has been equipped with a parallel hybrid drive system, which in addition to the emission engine powered by compressed natural gas, also uses electricity, which is derived from lithium-ion batteries.

The truck can drive 30 miles on electric power (about 48 km). When the batteries run out, the emission engine turns on, generating more energy and increasing the range of the vehicle to 250 miles (approximately 402 km).

Hybrid for utility tasks

The T680 is intended to be an alternative to vehicles with a diesel engine. Currently, the truck is in the testing phase. It will be available this year in the colors of Total Transportation Services Inc. It will serve ports in Los Angeles and Long Beach.

As the authors promise, the T680 is to be a great solution for drivers who have to adapt to the strict air quality regulations. This law applies in some states in the US, e.g. in California.
