French national postal operator La Poste has revealed the extent to which recent riots have damaged its infrastructure and disrupted its services.

As a result of the riots, nearly 80 post offices were unable to reopen due to “destruction or risks to postal workers and customers,” La Poste stated in a press release on Wednesday. In addition, 80 La Poste ATMs were also destroyed.

La Poste condemned the acts of violence and vandalism, and said it would make every effort to ensure the continuity of its services to its customers, individuals, professionals and communities.

Also on Wednesday, Philippe Wahl, Chairman and CEO of the La Poste group, together with Nathalie Collin, Deputy CEO of the La Poste group, went to a Noisy-le-Sec branch that had been damaged during the riots.

In order to deal with the disruption caused by the riots, on Thursday La Poste mobilised over 30,000 postal workers.

Commenting on the situation, CEO Philippe Wahl said:

“I would like to express my deepest support for the postal workers and to thank them for their unfailing mobilization in this difficult context. I would also like to express my solidarity and my support for the elected officials whose neighborhoods have been hard hit, and assure them that we will be at their side to rebuild our postal presence in the heart of the territories and ensure the continuity of our activities.”
