The lorry driver was transporting tomatoes from Poland to Bulgaria via Hungary when his vehicle slipped into the ditch next to a busy motorway on August 1st. The reason for the accident was reportedly a brake failure.
Several lorry drivers spotted the broken vehicle last week, but as the driver didn’t want to leave his vehicle, they couldn’t help him much. Fortunately, locals fetched him water and food.
After a while, it turned out that the lorry was the driver’s own property, and that he had refused to leave it for even a short period because he was afraid something would happen to it. However, the driver had no money to use the local rescue service in Hungary, so he remained in the cab of his broken lorry and waited for the truck rescue to arrive from Poland.
After a week, the locals decided to take control; a young Hungarian teacher assistant seeked help on Facebook and her voice was heard.
Those who had the machines needed to rescue the lorry arrived on the very same day the post was published. A crane, Hungarian Rescue 4 × 4 team, and even a local pastor with his tractor, helped to pull the lorry out of the ditch in 3 hours, reports boon.hu.
The news portal asked the local police why they did not help lift the Polish lorry out of the ditch. The following answer was sent to them by Lieutenant Colonel Andrea Hudák:
On August 1, in a Polish lorry accident in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county, firefighters turned off the vehicle and no personal injury occurred. From the lorry slipped into the ditch, the consignment was reloaded by the owners and transported with another assembly. As the lorry is not an obstacle to traffic, the transport company will carry out the technical rescue. ”
On Sunday afternoon, thanks to the help of the Facebook post, the mud was washed off the lorry and its cardan shaft was repaired. The truck is now on the road again.
