German police officers have said a 54-year-old truck driver was lucky to escape harm after an the accident caused by an insecure load on Thursday morning on the A1 in the direction of Hamburg.

The driver braked fiercely as he approached heavy traffic. The load in the trailer then slipped, some of which pierced through the wall of the trailer in the direction of the driver’s cab.

In the opinion of the Langwedel road policing department, who were called to the incident, the cargo was “completely inadequately secured”. Officers added that the load had fallen towards the front the of the trailer as a result.

According to the police, too few anti-slip mats and lashing straps were just two of the mistakes that were made when securing the goods. The driver is thus set to face administrative offense proceedings on the account of his inadequate load securing.
