Heated seats, a reclining chair for watching television and black trim instead of chrome: MAN’s new TGX Truckers’ Edition is what happens when 350 professional drivers help specify a long-haul truck.

The special-edition tractor unit debuted at the Truck Grand Prix at the Nürburgring on 10 July. It is based on the TGX 18.560 4×2 with MAN’s largest GX cab and is aimed primarily at small and medium-sized haulage companies looking for a well-equipped truck straight from the factory, without relying on aftermarket additions.

Rather than pursuing extravagant modifications, the drivers involved in the project were asked to balance comfort, practicality, safety and operating costs.

Their choices included heated and ventilated comfort seats, electronic ComfortSteering, an electric parking cooler and additional storage space.

The cab also features a 24-inch television, a wardrobe fitted to the rear wall and a specially developed reclining seat designed for watching TV during rest periods.

Drivers also specified a CB radio with hands-free operation, digital mirrors, wind deflectors, automatic fifth-wheel coupling detection and an electronic fuel-theft protection system.

Drivers reject chrome in favour of black trim

The driver panel also influenced the exterior design, rejecting chrome elements in favour of black components, including the wheel rims, sun visor and exterior design package.

A roof-mounted bar carries an LED light bar and air horns. The launch vehicle is finished in Mojave Beige Metallic, although customers will be able to choose other colours to suit their fleet branding.

Each Truckers’ Edition will also be supplied with fitted floor mats, bedding for the comfort bed and a leather jacket for the driver.

Power comes from MAN’s 13-litre D30 diesel engine, producing 560 hp and 2,800 Nm of torque. It is paired with the manufacturer’s new 14-speed TipMatic transmission as part of the PowerLion drivetrain.

MAN says the combination of the new engine, transmission and aerodynamic improvements can reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by around 5% compared with the previous TGX fitted with the D26 engine.

The truck also comes with predictive cruise control, emergency braking with forward detection and a turning assistant.
