One client – one container: operator launches new intermodal transport model

Polish intermodal operator Laude Smart Intermodal has begun implementing a new solution designed to improve the organisation of goods transport across Central Europe.

As part of its “Time for Revolution” programme, the company is introducing a service in which each customer uses a dedicated container, with transport based on regular rail–road connections.

Under the new model, Laude combines rail, road, and terminal services within a single system. Transport will be carried out using the company’s own rolling stock — including lorries, wagons, trailers, and containers developed in-house. Orders will be placed online via a web-based platform.

According to company president Marcin Witczak, the years 2025–2026 will serve as a transition period. From 2027, the company plans to make the system available to all clients operating along the Benelux–Silesia–Ukraine and Silesia–Northern Italy corridors. In the longer term, the network will be expanded to other European routes.

For different sectors, even without rail access

The “One client – one container” model targets a wide range of industries — from agriculture to the chemical, steel, food, and household appliance sectors. The containers are suitable for both bulk and palletised loads.

Laude intends the service to be accessible even to companies without direct access to rail infrastructure. Containers will be delivered and collected by road as part of the so-called first and last mile. Special trailers will allow empty containers to be dropped off and collected after loading, with a payload capacity of up to 30 tonnes.

Technical and organisational solutions

The system is based on specialised intermodal containers:

  • bulk containers with a capacity of more than 45 cubic metres (for grain, fertilisers, aggregates, or biomass), and
  • 23-foot pallet containers for loads up to 7 metres in length.

Their design enables quick loading, unloading, and reloading of entire containers without the need to handle the cargo itself, thereby reducing the risk of damage and shortening handling times.

Economics and organisation of transport

According to Laude, the new model reduces unit transport costs thanks to 25% higher capacity and simplified organisation.
A key feature is the principle of “one operator – one contract – one settlement system”, which eliminates intermediaries and streamlines logistics processes.

The company also highlights lower fuel consumption and reduced CO₂ emissions, which may appeal to businesses pursuing sustainability strategies.

Eastern markets and Ukraine

Laude Smart Intermodal is among the leading intermodal operators in Ukraine. The company says the new model will also reach clients located far from rail terminals. Despite the difficult geopolitical environment, Laude continues to provide logistics services across the country, working with local partners and existing infrastructure.

According to Pavel Kalasko, Vice President for Eastern Markets and General Director of Laude in Ukraine, the system ensures predictable transport even in unstable conditions:

“Every container — even a single one — has a guaranteed place on the train. The customer receives the service regardless of volume,” he emphasised.

An alternative to long road routes

The Laude Smart Intermodal system is designed to complement traditional road transport, particularly on distances over 300–400 kilometres.
The operator notes that the solution helps to reduce truck traffic, increase delivery regularity, and lower the carbon footprint.

Another advantage lies in its operational flexibility, supported by the company’s own terminals and rolling stock. Laude says the system allows coordination of the entire supply chain — from loading to final delivery — regardless of direction or destination.

In the long term, Laude plans to expand the “One client – one container” model to additional European markets.
